A woman's estate is suing a nursing home and staff after the woman suffered falls that allegedly contributed to her declining condition and eventual death.
Craig Weiss, as executor of the estate of Shirley Weiss, filed a lawsuit June 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Norwood Crossing Association, doing business as Norwood Crossing, Silvia Morici and nurse Veronica Ojdana.
According to the complaint, Shirley Weiss was a resident at Norwood Crossing, 6016 N. Nina Ave., Chicago, from March 10, 2012, to Oct. 19, 2013, and from Oct. 23, 2013, to Nov. 1, 2013. On Sept. 1, 2012 and Sept. 11, 2012, Weiss fell, the lawsuit states, and on May 26, 2013, she complained of shoulder pain,
On Aug. 4, 2013, and Oct. 17, 2013, she fell again, the suit says, and after the last fall, she was admitted to Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago for an open reduction internal fixation surgery. She died Nov. 11, 2013.
As a result of her care at Norwood Crossing, the lawsuit states, Shirley Weiss suffered a broken left distal femur, deterioration of her condition that contributed to her death, pain and suffering and medical expenses. Had she survived, the lawsuit states, she would have been entitled to damages.
Craig Weiss seeks damages in excess of $350,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorneys Michael F. Bonamarte and Daisy Ayllon of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
