A woman, whose twin unborn children died after doctors administered a medication after allegedly misdiagnosed an ectopic pregnancy, has sued the doctors and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital for wrongful death.
Miriam Lechuga, as administrator of the estates of the deceased infants, filed a complaint on June 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare, Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst Radiologists SC and physicians Marco Martinez and Jerold Weinberg.
On June 25, 2013, the defendants provided medical and radiology services for the plaintiffs.
On that date, the lawsuit states, the defendants improperly diagnosed an ectopic pregnancy; failed to weigh the possibility of a multiparous pregnancy; improperly concluded that a gestational sac should be seen during ultrasound inside the uterus; failed to properly manage the patient; and improperly administered the drug methotrexate.
As a result, the lawsuit states, the twins both suffered severe injuries that led to their deaths the next day. Also, their mother allegedly suffered pain and suffering of permanent damages and pecuniary injuries.
The plaintiff, citing wrongful death, seeks damages in excess of the court's jurisdictional requisite, plus costs. The plaintiff is represented by Craig P. Mannarino and Amanda L. Brasfield, of Kralovec, Jambois and Schwartz in Chicago.
