Surgeon struck by falling operating table sues hospital

Operatingroom

A doctor who was allegedly injured by a falling surgical table during an operation is suing the hospital where the surgery took place.

Stoyan Kokocharov filed a complaint on June 30 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center, formerly known as Our Lady of the Resurrection Medical Center.

Kokocharov, a physician from Riverwoods Village, was performing surgery at the defendant's facility on Sept. 11, 2013, when a "heavy part of a surgical table, which was left unsecured, fell from said table, striking (him), and causing his injury," the lawsuit states.

The defendant is cited with negligence and carelessness for failing to exercise reasonable care in the operation of its facility, maintain the surgical table in a safe condition, correct a dangerous condition and properly secure the table.

As a result, the lawsuit states, Kokocharov suffered injuries, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life, disability, impairment of his daily activities, lost wages and medical expenses. The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs.

The plaintiff is represented by Ivo Tchernev, of the Law Offices of Jacobson and Tchernev Ltd., in Chicago.
