A Cook County woman filed suit against a chain store, claiming physical injuries in a 2013 slip on an allegedly wet floor.
Jenette Farrar brought a complaint against Walgreens Inc. of Chicago and “unknown defendants” July 8 in Cook County Circuit Court, alleging premises negligence in a July 2013 incident.
According to the filing, the plaintiff was injured at the store’s 5401 S. Wentworth location in Chicago on or about July 11, 2013, when she slipped and fell on some apple juice while on her way to drop off a prescription at the pharmacy department.
The suit states that the defendant should have known of the hazard and taken steps to correct it. Court documents indicate that the company may have been negligent in failing to properly maintain the safety and cleanliness of the store’s floors, not removing spills or liquids from the floor surface and neglecting to display wet floor caution signs to warn its patrons.
Alleging injuries to her arm, elbow and hip, the plaintiff claims pain and suffering, mental anguish, bodily injury and disability, medical expenses, and loss of a normal life.
The plaintiff seeks damages in excess of $50,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs. She is represented in the case by The Stephen Mitchell Law Group in Chicago.
