Former Pace bus worker alleges discrimination, retaliation

A former employee is suing Pace Suburban Bus Service, alleging discrimination and retaliatory termination.

Susan Jung Lundy filed a lawsuit July 1 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Suburban Bus Division of the Regional Transportation Authority, doing business as PACE Suburban Bus Service, executive director Thomas J. Ross, and deputy executive director Terrance Brannon, alleging discrimination.

According to the lawsuit, the defendants violated the Civil Rights Act by discriminating against Lundy in not promoting her over less-qualified candidates, demoting her, not paying her commensurately with her responsibilities, tenure and experience, and terminating Lundy to retaliate against her when she filed a complaint with human resources July 9, 2014, about the alleged discrimination.

The suit says this retaliatory discharge violates the state's Whistleblower Act, common law and the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act. Also, the lawsuit states, the Equal Pay Act was violated when the plaintiff was paid less than others with her same experience and tenure.

Lundy seeks unspecified damages that equate to back pay, liquidated damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs and attorney fees. She is represented by attorneys Denise M. DeBelle, of the Law Office of Denise M. DeBelle in Chicago, and Rima N. Kapitan, of Kapitan Law Office in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L006747.
