A Cook County man filed suit against a motorist claiming damages in a 2014 Chicago bicyclist-motor vehicle accident.
Mike Stapleton brought a complaint against Mirza M. Baig in Cook County Circuit Court on July 13, alleging reckless disregard for his welfare and other acts of negligence in the July 2014 incident.
According to the filing, Baig was driving a vehicle northbound on Racine Avenue at or near the intersection of Belmont Avenue on or about July 24, 2014, when he struck Stapleton on his bicycle.
The suit states that Baig was in violation of a traffic signal; failed to exercise due care to avoid colliding with the plaintiff; neglected to sound his horn in warning or remain at the scene, give information and assist the plaintiff; and drove his car at a rate of speed greater than reasonable and proper for the circumstances.
Stapleton claims severe and disabling injuries, pain and anguish, medical expenses, and hindrance from attending to his usual duties for long periods of time.
Citing the defendant with negligence and willful and wanton conduct, the plaintiff seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney’s fees and costs. He is represented in the case by Brendan Kevenides of Freeman Kevenides Law Firm in Chicago.
