A woman escorting her grandson for a hospital visit is suing the hospital, alleging she was injured when she slipped on a wet floor.

Eufrocina Mendez filed a lawsuit July 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against Norwegian American Hospital Inc., alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 9, 2013, Mendez was at Norwegian American Hospital, 1044 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, escorting her grandson who required medical care when she "slipped and fell with great force and violence due to a foreign substance being left on the floor, causing her severe and permanent injuries."

The lawsuit alleges the defendant was negligent for allowing the substance to remain on the floor and failing to use ordinary care, inspect the premises, warn the plaintiff of a hazardous condition, and properly mop up the mess.

The plaintiff alleges injuries, pain and suffering, loss of a normal life and medical expenses.

Mendez seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorneys Josette Belvedere and Mark L. Karno of Mark L. Karno and Associates in Chicago.
