Church taken to court over woman's alleged injuries

A woman is suing a church, alleging injuries suffered after slipping on a wet floor.

Debra Scimeca filed a lawsuit July 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against Glenview United Methodist Church, alleging negligence and premises liability.

According to the complaint, on March 6, 2014, Scimeca was at the defendant's church, 727 Harlem Ave., Glenview, when she slipped and fell, due to a puddle of liquid on the floor. As a result, the suit says, the plaintiff sustained unspecified injuries, pain and suffering, and medical expenses.

The lawsuit alleges the defendant failed to maintain a safe premises, clean up the puddle, keep people away from the puddle, warn people about the danger, and mop up the mess.

Scimeca seeks damages of more than $100,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Robert D. Fink of Collison Law Office in Chicago.
