Woman blames apartment condo owners for slipping on ice

Ice

A woman who allegedly slipped on ice outside a Wheeling apartment complex is suing the owners of the complex.

Maria Vizcarra filed a lawsuit July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Nelly Alvarez Cromwell, trustee of the Nelly Alvarez Cromwell Revocable Trust, the Winetree Apartment Owners Association, and other known and unknown owners, alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 16, 2014, Vizcarra fell when she slipped on an unnatural accumulation of ice in a common area of the Winetree Apartment condominiums, 490 Pleasant Run Drive, Wheeling. The suit says the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care, keep the premises safe, inspect the grounds, and warn visitors about an unsafe condition.

The plaintiff alleges she sustained "diverse injuries," pain and suffering and medical expenses.

Vizcarra seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Steven A. Stein of Stein & Cherney in Wheeling.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007243.
