CHICAGO -- A father whose daughter was injured when a shelving unit at a local consignment video game franchise fell on top of her is suing the corporate owners.
Mayte Manteca, a child, and her father, Aaron Manteca, filed a complaint on July 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Gamestop Inc.
On July 13, 2013, the Mantecas were at the Gamestop at 7531 N. Clark St. in Gateway Centre Plaza in Chicago.
At that time, according to the lawsuit, a shelving unit that was improperly secured fell onto Mayte Manteca's head.
The defendant is cited for negligence and carelessness for failing to construct a safe shelving unit, properly secure the unit, directing the placement of improperly constructed shelving, warn customers about an unsafe condition and inspect the unit to ensure its safety.
The plaintiffs, citing counts of premises liability and a violation of the Family Expense Act, seek damages in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
