A patient allegedly seriously burned and scarred during an IV treatment for his heart condition is suing three doctors and the hospital that oversaw his care.
John Geroulis filed a lawsuit July 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence St. Francis Hospital, and Dr. Hani Snounou, Dr. Shahriar Dadkhah and Dr. Judy Joseph, alleging medical malpractice.
According to the complaint, Geroulis was admitted in July 2013 to Presence St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for treatment of his heart condition, and on July 12, 2013, he was given intravenous vasopressors. During the treatment, however, the vasopressors leaked and "extravated into his system, causing burns, sepsis and necrosis of his skin," the lawsuit states.
The suit alleges the hospital and three doctors were careless and negligent in failing to administer the IV medication correctly, supervise the medication being administered, take proper action to halt the medication after it had leaked, monitor the plaintiff's condition correctly, and mitigate the harm caused by the vasicants.
Geroulis seeks damages of more than $200,000, plus costs. He is represented by attorney Isaac Rabicoff of the Law Offices of Scott A. Kogen & Associates in Chicago.
