Woman blames nursing home for slip in icy parking lot

Icy ground

A Cook County woman is suing a nursing home, alleging hazardous parking lot conditions led to her serious injuries.

Maureen Connelly filed a lawsuit July 20 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lexington Health Care Center of Schaumburg Inc., alleging premises negligence in the 2013 incident.

According to the filing, on Dec. 24, 2013, Connelly was exiting the defendant’s facility on 675 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, and walked to the adjacent parking lot where she slipped on accumulated ice and fell to the ground with great force, sustaining external and internal injuries.

The suit says the defendant failed to maintain its parking lot in a reasonably safe condition and that a large piece of pavement was missing. Connelly alleges the nursing home breached its duty when it allowed the ice to accumulate and failed to warn patrons of the danger of slipping on ice, provide a safe means of travel to the parking lot, and repair the defective pavement.

The plaintiff alleges pain and mental anguish, prevention from attending to normal affairs of life and medical expenses.

Connelly seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Jeff A. Saltzman of The Law Offices of Jeff A. Saltzman of Schaumburg.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015L007337.
