A Chicago man is suing an electronics business, alleging product failure that put the plaintiff at risk of injury.
Melvin Beauchamp of Chicago filed a lawsuit July 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against J & J Electronics Inc. of Chicago, alleging liability in the 2014 incident.
According to the filing, on Oct. 28, 2014, a third party, Tammie Steward, purchased new wheels on rims from the defendant and had J & J install them on her automobile. The suit states as she drove away from the defendant’s store at 3240 W. 63rd St., Chicago, her vehicle’s rear driver’s side tire came loose, rolled into the street and struck Beauchamp, who had been standing at the intersection of West 63rd and Sacramento Avenue.
The suit states J & J Electronics is guilty of failing to install, secure, and inspect wheels and rims properly to prevent them from detaching and striking Beauchamp. The plaintiff alleges lost wages, medical bills, impaired daily functioning and disability.
Beauchamp seeks damages of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and costs. He is represented by attorney Jonathan Treshansky of Bekkerman Law Offices in Chicago.
