A woman is suing a grocer and the maker of its automatic front doors for allegedly causing her injury when the doors closed without warning on her and her cart.
Carlee Hatchett filed a complaint on July 24 in Cook County Circuit Court against Aldi Inc.; NABCO Entrances Inc., doing business as Midwest Automatic Door; Assa Abloy Entrance Systems U.S. Inc., doing business as Besam U.S. Inc.; Besam Automated Entrance Systems Inc. and Besam Inc., Optex Inc., doing business as Optex Tecnnologies Inc.; Stanley Black and Decker Inc.; and Stanley Access Technologies LLC.
On July 28, 2013, the defendants owned or operated the grocery at 20713 S. Cicero Ave., Matteson, or built or designed its automatic door. On that day, the lawsuit states, Hatchett was leaving the grocery when the automatic door closed on her and her cart, "causing her to fall on her side and resulting in injury."
The defendant is cited with letting a dangerous condition persist that it created and for failing to monitor the entrance/exit; warn customers about a danger; provide a safe entry/exit; create a timely inspection of the door mechanism; replace its sliding doors; discontinue using the sliding doors; equip its store with working doors; and warn customers about not having working automatic doors.
As a result, Hatchett allegedly suffered personal and pecuniary injuries. The plaintiff seeks damages of more than $550,000, plus costs.
