A man bound to a wheelchair is suing a local bar for lacking accessible entrances.
Ollie Franklin Jr. filed a complaint July 16 in Cook County Circuit Court against Brehon Corp. and Chicago Title Land Trust Co.
On April 4, Franklin Jr. tried to visit the Brehon Pub, which is at 731 N. Wells St., Suite 1, Chicago -- about four blocks from his apartment.
Since he uses a wheelchair, Franklin Jr. couldn't find a suitable entrance into the establishment, the lawsuit states. Both the side and front entrances lacked a ramp and had steps between the entrances and sidewalk.
The plaintiff, citing violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act and state Human Rights Act, seeks for the court to declare the business discriminatory, issue an injunction for it to amend its entrances, and award the defendant actual and punitive damages, attorney's fees and court costs.
