A female patient is suing a medical institution and three doctors over an allegedly botched hernia surgery that required another surgery to repair damage from the first.
Mary Jean Marinier filed a lawsuit July 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against Loyola University Medical Center, and Dr. Frederick Luchette, Dr. Michael Anstadt and Dr. Darl Vandevender.
According to the complaint, on Aug. 2, 2013, the defendants oversaw the open repair of Marinier's incisional hernia with mesh surgery and abdominoplasty. From then until Aug. 9, 2013, the plaintiff suffered "extreme pain, discomfort, nausea, emesis and inability to pass flatus or have a bowel movement," the lawsuit states.
The lawsuit states on Aug. 9, 2013, Marinier had to undergo another open surgery to release a small bowel obstruction caused by the "collapse of the small bowel that was adherent to the mesh and had been trapped between the Prolene suture and the mesh in the abdominal wall."
As a result, the plaintiff underwent additional surgery, pain and suffering, medical expenses and disability.
Marinier seeks damages of more than $200,000, plus costs. She is represented by attorney Mark G. Basile of Basile Law Firm in Chicago.
