Cook County patient accuses Lutheran General Hospital of malpractice

A Cook County patient is suing a Chicago hospital and health care corporation, alleging surgical malpractice.

Anthony Hunt filed a lawsuit Aug. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lutheran General Hospital, doing business as Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation, and Pentax Medical, a division of Pentax of America Inc. alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 26, 2013, Hunt suffered medical malpractice at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, in a surgical procedure that involved a duodenoscope. The suit says, prior to the procedure, the duodenoscope was not properly sterilized causing Hunt to develop an infection of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae – also known as CRE.

Hunt seeks damages in excess of the minimum amount required, plus legal costs  He is represented by attorneys Daniel Kotin and Robert Geimer of Tomasik Kotin Kasserman in Chicago.
