A woman is suing United Skates of America Inc. for injuries she allegedly suffered while skating.

Debra Haslett filed suit Aug. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division, against the defendants, United Skates of America Inc. and Milton Torrance, a maintenance worker.

According to the complaint, Haslett claims that while skating at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park and Family Entertainment Center on July 13 she fell on the skating surface and suffered a broken back, bruising and disfigurement, physical and mental pain and anguish, and must pay current and future medical expenses. The plaintiff claims the park’s owner, United Skates, and their employee, Milton Torrance, failed to maintain a safe skating surface, which led to her injuries.

Attorney John Xydakis of the Law Office of John S. Xydakis in Chicago is representing Haslett in the lawsuit, which seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-008316.
