An Illinois woman and her minor daughter are suing a day care center over negligence claims related to injuries the daughter suffered in an altercation with another child.
Laila Belton and her mother Ina Jones filed suit Aug. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division, against defendants Academy for Children Inc., JPE Day Care Center Inc. and Amtrust North America Inc.
The lawsuit states that at 12:24 p.m. on June 15, Belton was injured at the defendant’s childcare facility in Lansing, when another minor child poured or threw hot water on Belton’s body. The plaintiffs claim the defendant was negligent in allowing children to play with a water cooler known to have a spigot that could spew scalding water and for not ensuring the cooler was safe for children’s use.
Attorney E. Ryan Bradley of The Bradley Law Firm in Chicago, is representing plaintiffs Belton and Jones, who are seeking damages of more than $25,000 for compensatory damages, penalties, attorney’s fees, and costs, as well as further compensation the court deems appropriate based on the circumstances of the case.
