A Cook County man and woman are suing the owners of a bar and its employees in a dispute surrounding an altercation on the premises.

Yadira Diaz and Jose Guzman filed a lawsuit Aug. 31, in Cook County Circuit Court against 3109 W. 59th St. Inc., doing business as La Sirena, the bar’s owner, Bertha Ledesma, and an employee, Alma O. Escobar, also known as Angelina Escobar, alleging premises negligence.

According to the complaint, on April 27, both plaintiffs attended the bar where they were attacked and beaten by Escobar and several other unknown bar patrons. The suit says the bar’s owners failed to provide adequate security and ensure their safety and the attack was unprovoked. The lawsuit states Diaz and Guzman suffered permanent injuries requiring medical care and expenses. The suit also alleges the bar’s owners are liable because they served liquor to the attackers.

Diaz and Guzman seek more than $50,000, plus costs of the lawsuit. They are represented by attorneys Richard R. Gordon and Robert K. Albrecht of Gordon Law Offices Inc. in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-00.
