A Cook County woman is suing a Northbrook nursing home, alleging poor treatment led to her hospitalization.
Betty Morris filed a lawsuit Aug. 31 in Cook County Circuit Court against The Grove of Northbrook Living & Rehab Center, alleging violation of the Nursing Home Care Act.
According to the complaint, when she was admitted at the Grove, Morris was diagnosed with and suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis, for which she required several pain medications, including a fentanyl patch and Oxycodone to alleviate pain.
The suit says on April 18, the Grove failed to administer Morris' pain medication as ordered, failed to inform a physician of a lack of medication, and lied to her power of attorney by stating her fentanyl patch had been changed when it had not.
As a result of these violations, the lawsuit states, Morris experienced severe vomiting from excruciating pain and withdrawal from not receiving her pain medication, and from this ordeal she sustained heart arrythmias. Morris was hospitalized for three days at Highland Park Hospital following this incident, where she incurred significant medical expenses, the suit says.
Morris seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus attorney fees and court costs. She is represented by attorney Allen I. Tish of Jerome Schachter & Associates in Skokie.
