Woman sues Suburban Gastroenterology and physician over allegations of professional negligence and wrongful death

Healthcare

A woman is suing an Illinois medical practice and one of its physicians over claims of professional negligence leading to the death of her husband.

Laurie Taylor, independent administrator of the estate of Anthony Taylor, filed a complaint Sept. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against Scott Berger, M.D. and Suburban Gastroenterology Ltd., alleging professional negligence and wrongful death.

The complaint states that on Feb. 10, 2014, while Anthony Taylor was seeing Berger as an outpatient at Suburban Gastroenterology, Berger should have ordered a liver biopsy and immunoglobulin levels and prescribed steroids for him based on blood work taken three months earlier.

The complaint also states Berger should have sent Anthony Taylor to a Center of Excellence and have him evaluated for a liver transplant.

However, as a result of these acts of negligence, Anthony Taylor died on April 9, 2014, at Loyola University Medical Center in Cook County, according to the complaint.

Laurie Taylor seeks judgment against each defendant in excess of the jurisdictional limits of this court.

She is represented by Bradley Z. Schulman of Motherway & Napleton, LLP in Chicago.
