A Cook County woman is suing a hospital and a nursing home in a dispute surrounding the death of an 89-year-old relative.

Mamie Lodree filed suit Sept. 8 in Cook County Circuit Court’s Law Division against the following plaintiffs: Advocate Health and Hospitals Corp., doing business as Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center; Manor Care of Palos Heights (West) IL, doing business as Manorcare Health Services – Palos Heights West; Manorcare Health Services LLC, doing business as Manorcare Health Services LLC; Heartland Employment Services LLC; Evergreen Living and Rehab Center LLC, doing business as The Villa at Evergreen Park); and Transitional Care Management LLC, citing negligence and wrongful death.

The lawsuit lists 14 counts of neglect under the Illinois Nursing Home Care Act in the death of Mattie Dean, a stroke victim. The claim states that under the defendants’ care in from Oct. 4, 2013, to April 1, 2014, Dean developed multiple pressure sores. Not only did these wounds allegedly worsen during Dean’s stay at the defendants’ facilities, the complaint states, but she also developed an infection. These conditions degraded her mental and physical well-being and reduced her quality of life before her death in September 2014.

Attorneys Jordan S. Powell and Mary K. Volk, both with the Chicago firm of Levin & Perconti, are representing Lodree in the suit, which seeks damages of more than $50,000.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-009192.
