A woman is suing Roseland Community Hospital alleging the wrongful death of her sister after a gallbladder surgery.

Mary Baylock, administrator of the estate of the late Renina Baylock, filed suit Sept. 4 in Cook County Circuit Court’s Law Division against Roseland Community Hospital and Dr. Pascual Sales, alleging four counts of medical malpractice.

The claim states that Renina Baylock was an inpatient at Roseland Community Hospital on March 4, 2014, where she underwent a laparoscopic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) performed by Dr. Sales. Sometime during the operation, according to the lawsuit, Renina Baylock’s duodenum was perforated. As a result, she suffered acute and prolonged physical and mental pain and suffering, which allegedly caused her death on March 8, 2014. Renina’s condition also caused the plaintiff to incur large medical expenses and lost wages.

Attorney Cindy G. Fluxgold with the firm Goldstein, Fluxgold and Barron P.C. of Chicago is representing the plaintiff, who is seeking damages in excess of $50,000.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-009121.
