A Cook County woman is suing a Alexian Brothers Health System for medical malpractice.

Pamela L. Taylor filed suit Sept. 11 in Cook County Circuit Court’s Law Division against Alexian Brothers Health System; Alexian Brothers Health System, doing business as Alexian Brothers Medical Center; Alexian Brothers Hospital Network; Alexian Brothers Hospital Network doing business as Alexian Brothers Medical Center; Alexian Brothers Medical Center; and Ellen R. Bertholomey R.N.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 14, 2013, Taylor was admitted to the emergency room of Alexian Brothers Medical Center complaining of menstrual pain and vomiting since 8 p.m. the previous evening. Upon standing to give a urine sample, Taylor fainted and injured herself in the resulting fall. Taylor claims Bertholomey, her triage nurse, failed to take proper precautions and did not instruct her on safely standing while ill. The suit alleges negligence on the part of Bartholomey and the hospital led to permanent, debilitating injuries and resulting medical costs.

Attorney Allan H. Bender of the Chicago firm Goldstein, Bender & Romanoff is representing the plaintiff, who is seeking damages of more than $50,000 and litigation costs.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015-L-009334.
