Healthcare

A woman is suing a Chicago medical center and one of its physicians over claims of medical negligence during gynecologic surgery.

Maria Navarrete filed a complaint Sept. 16 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against Dr. Juraj Letko, Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center of Chicago, Sinai Medical Group, and Sinai Medical Group Ltd., alleging medical negligence.

On April 28, 2014, the complaint states, Letko was performing various gynecologic surgeries on Navarrete at Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center of Chicago.

During the surgery, the complaint states that Letko was negligent in performing the surgery and failed to properly position Navarrete, failed to protect her while under anesthesia and vulnerable to nerve compression, failed to protect her sacral nerve root, failed to perform a uterine endometrial tissue biopsy pre-operatively, improperly placing sutures, and other negligent acts or omissions.

As a result, Navarrete suffered injuries to her body and nervous system that have caused her pain and suffering and required extensive medical treatment and expenses.

Navarrete seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs of the suit.

She is represented by Edward M. Rubin of Rubin Machado & Rosenblum Ltd. in Chicago.
