A woman is suing an Illinois medical facility and an orthopedic surgeon over claims of negligence during surgery.
Krystal Goins filed a complaint Aug. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against Wellington Hsu, M.D.; Northwestern Memorial Hospital; Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation; and the Hsu Group LLC, alleging negligence.
On March 22, 2012, the complaint states, Hsu was performing lumbar spine surgery on Goins at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, when Goins sustained neurological injury.
The complaint states the defendants were negligent in failing to take proper precautions to protect Goins' nerves from injury, failing to recognize in a timely manner that she sustained neurological injury, improperly placing retractors during surgery, and failing to diagnose her condition, among other negligent acts or omissions.
As a result, Goins suffered personal and pecuniary injuries, the complaint states.
