715

A Cook County woman is suing a doctor and hospital over alleged medical negligence in the placement of an intrauterine device.

Ivy Buchanan filed a lawsuit Sept. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division against Dr. Debra Killingsworth and Christian Community Health Center.

According to the suit, Buchanan developed pelvic and abdominal pain shortly after Killingsworth implanted an IUD on July 8, 2010. The symptoms persisted for three years, although no known cause was found until an X-ray in September 2013 revealed the device had perforated the uterine wall and was lodged in the plaintiff’s pelvic and abdominal region. The device was subsequently removed.

Buchanan is seeking damages against both defendants of more than $50,000. Chicago attorney Gregory X. Gorman is representing the plaintiff.

Cook County Circuit Court, Law Division case number 2015L009633.
