Berwyn nursing home sued for alleged injuries to disabled woman

Medicalmalpractice

A Cook County man is suing a nurse and the owners of a nursing home, alleging negligence in the care of a disabled woman.

Michael Petraski, guardian of Margaret Petraski, a disabled woman, filed a lawsuit Sept. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against Courtyard Healthcare Center in Berwyn, its owners Barak Baver and David Cheplowitz, nurse Mariela Silva and an aide she supervised identified as Rose.

According to the lawsuit, Margaret Petraski, a quadriplegic, was a resident of Courtyard who required assistance with transferring, toileting and bed mobility/re-positioning. On Oct. 3, 2013, the lawsuit says, Silva and aide Rose failed to maneuver Petraski properly, resulting in permanent and severe injuries, and subsequent medical expenses.

Petraski seeks a jury trial, plus more than $50,000 in damages. He is represented by attorney Paul L. Salzetta of Winters Salzetta O’Brien and Richardson in Chicago.
