An elderly woman is suing a long-term Crete nursing care facility, alleging negligence when she was injured from a fall during her time as a resident.

Dorothy Woods filed a lawsuit Sept, 22 in Will County Circuit Court against St. James Wellness Rehab and Villas, alleging abuse and negligence.

According to the complaint, on April 21, 2014, Woods suffered a fall that resulted in a femur fracture. The plaintiff alleges that because she has a high risk for falls and development of ulcers, the nursing facility did not care for her appropriately to avoid the fall or to avoid the worsening of her injuries after the fact.

The suit says Woods developed pressure ulcers on her body around her tailbone area due to the facility’s failure to update her resident care plan as it related to her fall. The plaintiff alleges pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement and related expenses.

Woods seeks more than $50,000, plus legal costs. She is represented by attorney Marc S. Weissman of the Law Offices of Steven J. Malman & Associates in Chicago.

Will County Circuit Court case number: 2015-l009663.
