Wife sues Hinsdale hospital, alleging negligence left husband brain damaged

Head injury

A Cook County couple is suing a medical practice, alleging malpractice.

Sergio and Margarita Ramirez filed a lawsuit Oct. 6 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert P. Kazan, West Suburban Neurosurgical Associates, Dr. Sheela Konda, Suburban Radiologists, Adventist Hinsdale Hospital doing business as Adventist Midwest Health, Dr. Stephen Sloan and Associates of Inpatient Management doing business as Adventist Health Partners Inc.

According to the complaint, the defendants failed to exercise reasonable care in October 2013, when Sergio Ramirez was under their care for a severe head injury with accompanying hydrocephalus. As a result of the alleged negligence, Ramirez suffered permanent brain damage that will require ongoing medical care for the remainder of his life, the suit says.

The Ramirezes seek damages of more than $50,000 and litigation costs. They are represented by attorney Emilio E. Machado of Rubin, Machado & Rosenblum in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010166.
