Nursing home blamed for elderly woman's death

Caution sign 02

A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago nursing home, alleging wrongful death in the passing of an 87-year-old woman.

Patricia Williams, independent administrator of the estate of Margaret Culbreath, filed a lawsuit Oct. 7 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Renaissance at 87th Street Inc. doing business as The Renaissance at 87th Street.

According to the lawsuit, Culbreath was a resident of the defendant’s facility from July 12, 2012, until her death Jan. 21, 2015, with intermittent hospital stays. The suit says Culbreath fell and suffered closed head wounds Oct. 8, 2013, and developed seizure disorder from her injuries.

The lawsuit states the defendant’s carelessness led to Culbreath’s fall and subsequent injuries resulting in serious and permanent injuries, disability, disfigurement, pain and suffering.

Williams seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Jonathan W. Young of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010190.
