1824

A Cook County man is suing a Niles nursing home and three staff members, alleging negligence in the death of an elderly woman.

William Maddox, independent administrator of the estate of Mary Katyal, filed a lawsuit Sept. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Regency Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center doing business as Regency Rehabilitation Center in NIles, S.I.R. Management Inc., and nurses Cecilia Love, Simi Rose and Aida Cortez.

According to the complaint, Katyal, who suffered from dementia, entered Regency Rehabilitation in August 2010 for long-term care. During her stay, the suit says, she suffered from multiple falls and bruises, scabies, dehydration, a leg fracture and other conditions.

Katyal died May 29, 2014, the lawsuit states, due to sepsis, septic shock and a urinary tract infection. The suit says the defendant’s negligence led to her illnesses and subsequent death.

Maddox seeks damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Jacqueline Kanter of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009521.
