A Cook County woman is suing an Evergreen Park nursing home and other health care providers, alleging wrongful in her mother’s passing.

Mary Shields, independent administrator of the estate of Sadie Cooley, filed a lawsuit Sept. 17 in Cook County Circuit Court against Evergreen Living and Rehab Center doing business as The Villa at Evergreen Park, registered nurse Eartha Cordell, Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers and Dr. David Trotter.

According to the complaint, Cooley was admitted to The Villa on Sept. 20, 2013, for ongoing care and was on oxygen. On Oct. 11, 2013, the suit says, Cooley experienced shortness of breath and other symptoms.

After blood work and a chest X-ray were performed, the lawsuit states, Cooley was transferred to Little Company of Mary Hospital, also in Evergreen Park, where her condition deteriorated and she died Oct. 12, 2013.

The suit alleges the defendants delayed treatment or provided negligent care, causing Cooley’s death.

Shields seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Jacqueline B. Kanter of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009520.
