The Cook County parents of a minor are suing the Chicago school board, alleging sexual abuse of their son.

John Doe Sr. and Jane Doe, parents of John Doe, a minor, filed a lawsuit Sept. 15 in Cook County Circuit Court against the Chicago Board of Education and special education teacher Anthony Romeo. The plaintiffs' names are being withheld because the case involves alleged sexual abuse.

According to the lawsuit, John Doe, who is autistic, was sexually assaulted by another student in September 2014 at the Jordan Elementary Community School. The suit says Doe’s complaints about the abuse were ignored by Romeo, his teacher.

The plaintiffs allege this incident was part of an overall pattern of bullying behavior by other classmates against their son, and further allege their protests to school officials about the situation were ignored.

The plaintiffs seek a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. They are represented by attorneys Juanita B. Rodriguez and Rafael Lazaro of Pavia & Lazaro of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-009445.
