Patient sues Advocate Health, alleging surgical error

7209

A Cook County patient is suing a hospital and two doctors, alleging malpractice involving a hernia operation.

Stefon Piggee filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Steven Schaefer, Dr. Ariane Abcarian, Advocate Health Care Network, doing business as Advocate Health Care, Advocate Health and Hospitals Corporation, doing business as Advocate Christ Hospital and Medical Center, Advocate Christ Medical Center, Advocate Medical Group and Advocate Christ Medical Group.

According to the complaint, the defendants are responsible for complications Piggee suffered after a Nov. 22, 2013, operation Schaefer and Abcarian performed to repair a hernia. The suit says during the laparoscopic surgery, a cyst was drained but not removed intact, which resulted in a lymphatic leak that caused permanent pain, suffering and disability, and has prevented his usual activities, as well as costing the plaintiff medical expenses.

Piggee seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Regina Picone Etherton of Regina P. Etherton & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010610.
