Worker sues Unifirst, seeking data on injuries from chemical burns

Acid warning

A maintenance worker is suing Unifirst, seeking information for chemical burns he allegedly suffered at work.

Leonardo Cruz filed a discovery petition Oct. 14 in Cook County Circuit Court against Unifirst Corporation, an industrial laundry based in Melrose Park.

According to the complaint, on July 1, while Cruz was repairing an industrial wastewater system, a co-worker raised a hinged door that indirectly released sulfuric acid which burned the plaintiff.

Cruz seeks documents describing the incident, names of all owners, managers and supervisors, and other information. He is represented by attorney Thomas J. Power of Cooney & Conway in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-010445.
