A Cook County woman is suing a Downers Grove nursing facility, alleging negligence led to personal injury for an elderly resident.

Leslynn Schafer, independent administrator of the estate of Jean Genson, filed a lawsuit Aug. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against Providence Downers Grove, Rest Haven Illiana Christian Convalescent Home and Rest Haven Illiana Christian Convalescent Home doing business as Providence Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, alleging negligence.

The complaint states Genson, a resident of Providence Downers Grove from 2004 to 2014, had a medical history that included COPD, advanced dementia and blindness, as well as risk for pressure sore development and limited mobility. According to the suit, the defendants’ negligence allowed Genson, who died Feb. 28 2014, to suffer a dislocated shoulder and a large leg wound.

Schafer seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. She is represented by attorney Jeffrey Schlapp of the Schlapp Law Group in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-008859.
