Son accues Brentwood Healthcare Center of negligence in mother's death.

Medical negligence

A Cook County man is suing the Burbank nursing facility where his 80-year-old mother lived, alleging wrongful death.

Robert Huckabee, independent administrator of the estate of Gloria Brown, filed a lawsuit Aug. 28 in Cook County Circuit Court against THI of Illinois at Brentwood doing business as Brentwood Sub-Acute Healthcare Center and nurse Donna Watson. Additional parties are named as respondents in discovery because they are believed to have information about other possible defendants.

According to the complaint, Brown developed multiple pressure sores while she lived at Brentwood between September 2013 and January 2014. The plaintiff blames Brentwood and the other defendants for the development of the wounds, unnecessary pain and suffering, and disability and disfigurement Brown suffered until her death Feb. 9, 2014. The lawsuit also seeks compensation under the Illinois Wrongful Death Act for medical, hospital and funeral expenses.

Huckabee seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorneys Margaret P. Battersby Black and Andrew J. Thut of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-008869.
