Daughter sues Kindred Hospital, alleging malpractice in treatment of mother

Medicalmalpractice

A Cook County woman is suing an Oak Park nursing facility and a Northlake hospital, alleging malpractice in their treatment of her mother.

Maxine Johnson, individually and as independent administrator of the estate of Mary Fowlkes, filed a lawsuit Nov. 3 in Cook County Circuit Court against THC-Chicago Inc. doing business as Kindred Hospital-Chicago and Rush Oak Park Hospital Inc.

According to the complaint, Fowlkes developed deep tissue injuries to her sacrum, buttocks and hip area during her residency at Rush Oak Park Hospital between Nov. 23-29, 2013, as well as during her time at Kindred Hospital in Northlake. Despite hospitalization and treatment between November 2013 and February 2014, the suit says the wounds worsened and became infected, leading to her death March 19, 2014.

Johnson seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Eva Golabeck of Kralovek, Jambois & Schwartz of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-011205.
