Daughter accuses Lexington Health Care Center of neglect in father’s death

A Cook County woman is suing a Bloomingdale nursing home, alleging wrongful death in the passing of her 84-year-old father.

Rita Cannella, independent executor of the estate of Filippo Cannella, filed a lawsuit Nov. 2 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lexington Health Care Center of Bloomingdale Inc. doing business as Lexington Health Care Center of Bloomingdale and Royal Management Corp.

According to the complaint, Filippo Cannella lived at Lexington Health Care Center between Oct. 16-Nov. 8, 2013. After falling from his dining chair Nov. 8, 2013, the suit says Filippo was diagnosed with a closed head injury, resulting in significantly deteriorating health. He was placed in hospice care Nov. 23, 2013, where he died five days later.

Cannella seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Susan L. Novosad and Daisy Ayllon of Levin & Perconti in Chicago.
