A Cook County woman is suing the city of Chicago and several unknown police officers, alleging neglect for failing to provide medical attention to her stricken brother.
Rhonda Walker, special administrator of the estate of Charles Edward Jones, filed a lawsuit Oct. 29 in Cook County Circuit Court against the city of Chicago and unknown police officers.
The complaint states on Aug. 22 , when Jones surrendered for an outstanding warrant at the Third District facility, 7040 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Chicago, he became ill and requested medical attention. According to the plaintiff, officers failed to seek medical attention on his behalf.
As a result, Jones was found dead in his holding cell the morning of Aug. 23, the suit says.
Walker seeks a jury trial and damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorneys Antonio Romanucci, Angela P. Kurtz and Martin M. Gould of Romanucci & Blandin of Chicago.
