A Cook County couple is suing the University of Chicago Medical Center doctors who delivered their infant daughter, alleging negligence caused her to suffer permanent injuries.
Nkiru Kalejaiye and Olanrewaju Kalejaiye, as parents of Folasade Kalejaiye, filed a lawsuit Oct. 27 in Cook County Circuit Court against the University of Chicago Medical Center, Dr. Kenneth Nunes and Dr. Lyndsey Benson, alleging medical negligence.
According to the complaint, during the baby’s Feb. 18, 2011, delivery, Nunes and Benson used excessive traction, injuring spinal nerves in her neck and shoulder. The injuries left Folasade with brachial plexus palsy, a paralysis of her right arm, the suit says.
The Kalejaiyes seek damages of more than $50,000, plus legal costs. They are represented by attorney Thomas G. Siracusa of Power Rogers & Smith in Chicago.
