Waukegan mother sues Lurie Children's Hospital, alleges negligence in son’s treatment

Stop stroke

A Waukegan woman is suing Lurie Children's Hospital and two of its doctors, alleging they neglected to perform routine tests that could have prevented her son from having a stroke.

Hazel Truesdell, mother of Kenneth James Moore, filed a lawsuit Aug. 26 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Robert Liem, Dr. Colleen Morrison, and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, formerly known as The Children’s Memorial Hospital.

According to the complaint, Kenneth James Moore, 7 at the time in question, suffers from sickle cell disease and received twice yearly evaluations from Liem and Morrison through Children’s Hospital’s comprehensive sickle cell program. The suit says Moore was seen by Morrison on May 19, 2009, but did not receive his customary transcranial Doppler evaluation. Approximately six months later, on Nov. 2, 2009, Moore suffered a stroke, the suit says.

Truesdell seeks damages of more than $50,000, including legal costs and interest. She is represented by attorney Michael W. Clancy of Clancy Law in St. Charles.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-008713.
