Cook County woman blames health care providers for sister’s death

Surgery

A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago hospital and other health care providers, alleging malpractice involving her sister's death.

Diane Covarrubias, independent administrator of the estate of Christine Golenbeski, filed a lawsuit Nov. 9 in Cook County Circuit Court against Presence Resurrection Medical Center, Northwest Pulmonary Associates, Dr. Larry Jankelowitz, Dr. Nathan Stuempfig and Dr. Timothy Toole.

According to the complaint, Golenbeski died Dec. 10, 2013, after undergoing heart surgery at Resurrection. The suit says the cause of death was a cut and internal bleeding resulting from the improper insertion of an orogastric tube during surgery.

Covarrubias seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Alexander M. Sukhman of Kralovec, Jambois & Schwartz of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-011421.
