A Cook County woman is suing a Chicago health care facility, alleging negligence led to a relative's death.

Deiserre L. Burns, special representative of the estate of Alfreda Spratt-Burns, filed a lawsuit Nov. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Lake Shore Healthcare & Rehabilitation Centre.

According to the complaint, between Aug. 30-Nov. 27, 2013, Spratt-Burns was a resident of Lake Shore, where she developed malnutrition, dehydration and various infections beginning Nov. 11. The suit says the defendant’s neglect caused these conditions, allowing Spratt-Burns to suffer severe complications that cost hospital and medical expenses.

Spratt-Burns died in late 2013.

Deiserre Burns seeks damages of more than $50,000. She is represented by attorney Mark L. Karno of Mark L. Karno & Associates in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L-011442.
