Husband blames health care givers for wife's breast cancer death

A Cook County man is suing his wife's Rolling Meadows cancer treatment center and one of its doctors, alleging wrongful death.

James Mueller, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Patricia Mueller, filed a lawsuit Nov. 10 in Cook County Circuit Court against Dr. Erol Yorulmazoglu and Northwest Oncology and Hematology in Rolling Meadows. Dr. Daniel Winkelman and Personal Women’s Healthcare were named as respondents in discovery.

According to the complaint, the defendants were careless and negligent in the care and treatment of Patricia Mueller, a breast cancer patient whose condition was thought to be in remission. The suit says Yorulmazoglu and Northwest Oncology neglected to monitor her for a recurrence of breast cancer, including failing to obtain tumor marker testing. Mueller died of the disease Nov. 12, 2013.

Mueller seeks damages in of more than $50,000, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney Randall F. Peters of Randall F. Peters & Associates in Chicago.
