Son blames Cantata Adult Life Services for injuries to his mother

Knee surgery

A Cook County man is suing his mother’s caregivers, alleging negligence for injuries she suffered while being transferred from her bed.

Michael Worobey, as power of attorney for Bernadette Worobey, of Brookfield, filed a lawsuit Aug. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against The British Home Life Services Corp. doing business as Cantata Adult Life Services in Brookfield.

According to the complaint, on Aug. 23, 2014, Bernadette Worobey, a stroke survivor who was prescribed blood-thinning medication, was injured while the Cantata staff used a Hoyer lift to move her from her bed. The suit says she suffered a hematoma on her leg, requiring surgical treatment four days later.

The lawsuit alleges the defendant’s negligence in operating the lift caused Worobey’s injuries, and blames the Cantata staff for not detecting her injuries in a timely manner.

Michael Worobey seeks damages of more than $50,000. He is represented by attorney Michael E. Holden of Romanucci & Blandin of Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L008581.
