A Chicago couple is suing Johnson & Johnson, makers of the antibiotic Levaquin, for side effects they allege the drug caused.
Jerzy and Monika Tyszkowski filed a lawsuit Aug. 21 in Cook County Circuit Court against Johnson & Johnson Ortho McNeil Pharmaceutical Inc., Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development and Janssen Pharmaceuticals.
According to the complaint, in October 2010, after Jerzy Tyszknowski took five prescribed doses of Levaquin for an infection, he developed serious complications affecting his joints, kidneys and other organs. The suit says the drug has altered the plaintiff’s DNA, meaning the symptoms and side effect are irreversible.
The suit blames the defendants for inadequately researching Levaquin or warning of its potential dangerous side effects.
The Tyszkowskis seek damages of more than $50,000, plus litigation costs. They are represented by attorney Michael Rothmann of the Law Office of Martin L. Glink in Arlington Heights.
