A Cook County man is suing a truck driver and his company, alleging the defendant was speeding when he struck and killed the plaintiff's brother.

Don Sharpe, individually and as special administrator of the estate of Eric Sharpe, filed a lawsuit Nov. 18 in Cook County Circuit Court against Craig S. Ligeikis of Melrose Park, individually and as an agent or employee of Benjamin Moore & Co. and Ryder Truck Rentals.

According to the complaint, on April 8, Ligeikis was driving a Benjamin Moore truck the northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 55 in Plainfield when he rear-ended a Chrysler Sebring sedan driven by Eric Sharpe, 47. The suit says Ligeikis was driving too fast and failed to keep adequate distance between his vehicle and Sharpe’s vehicle. Sharpe died of his injuries.

Don Sharpe seeks damages of more than $50,000 to compensate the surviving next of kin, plus court costs. He is represented by attorney James E. Thompson of the Law Offices of Joseph V. Roddy in Chicago.

Cook County Circuit Court case number 2015-L011774.
